Hi! Our names are Meg and Laura. We’re in our early 30s and have been married for about 8 years. We’ve been living in San Francisco for 7 years, and we’ve come to call the Bay Area home. We love animals, the great outdoors, good food, and hanging out together. We’re a couple of self-proclaimed nerds who love to read and learn new things.

We’ve always known that adoption was the right choice to start our happy family. We have many friends who were adopted at birth, and many friends who have grown their families through adoption. We are committed to an open adoption.

We cannot imagine how difficult it must be to make the decisions that you’re considering right now. However, should you choose us to raise your child, know that we will love him or her unendingly.

    About Us

We originally met while doing a play together in college. Meg was acting in it, and Laura was a stage manager. This is a pretty good representation of us! Meg is loud and outgoing and loves a good laugh, and Laura is a little quieter but gets things done.

Since graduating from college, Meg has always worked in technology and loves it. Laura worked in theatre for a long time, and she made the jump to work in technology a couple years ago. She really wants to work on developing video games someday!

We love to travel. Our favorite travel memories are our honeymoon in Kenya (where we got to pet a baby rhinoceros!), camping in Thousand Maples and Yellowstone, and scuba diving with friendly sharks in Belize.

    Our Values

    Family first

We value a tight-knit family that communicates and spends time together. One of our favorite things to do is go to the park and just hang out with each other. We bring our dog, Penny, and sometimes our friends join us, but mostly, we just want to be together.

    Be nice

We value kindness and gratitude. It’s very easy to get caught up in the chores and things we have to do every day, but it’s important to us to be kind - to strangers, to animals, and to each other.

    Learn stuff

We value knowledge. We spend time in museums (we love visiting the stingrays at the California Academy of Science!), we read a lot, and we do things like stop and read historical markers on road trips. The world is just SO COOL.

    Do things

We value experiences. We like to say yes to new stuff, and we try things that scare us a little bit. We never want to say, “I really wish I had done that…” when we had the chance. There’s too much going on to be bored - especially in San Francisco!

We can’t wait to teach our kid these things and to show them how amazing the world is. There’s so much to explore together!

    Our Traditions

Meg’s favorite holiday is Halloween. She loves it! She comes up with elaborate themes and designs costumes for both herself and Laura (and sometimes our dog Penny, too). We get together with our neighbors and set up a candy station on the sidewalk outside our apartment to make sure all the kids in our neighborhood can trick-or-treat at our building! She cannot wait to be able to dress up her own little munchkin (note to self: start Wizard of Oz themed costumes now).

Laura best loves Christmas. We get a live tree every year and decorate it with ornaments that remind us of something special. Whenever we travel to a new place, we always buy a Christmas ornament. Meg’s favorite ornament is a big green cactus strung with Christmas lights that we got when we camped in Big Bend National Park one New Year’s Eve. Laura’s favorite is a sparkly white beluga whale we got at the Vancouver Aquarium on a long weekend trip. Decorating our tree takes a lot of time as we remember past trips and how much fun we’ve had.

It’s important to us to spend time every year going on big family vacations. We go on a beach trip with Laura’s huge family to the Outer Banks in North Carolina every other year, where we spend time paddleboarding, playing cards, and having after-dinner dance parties with our nephews. We travel somewhere new with Meg’s family every few years. We’ve all been to Mexico, Honduras, Germany, and the Netherlands together. Our next stop is Paris with both of our moms to celebrate their 60th birthdays!  We can’t wait to be able to bring our child along for the ride!

    About Meg, By Laura

Meg is awesome. She is smart, loving, and brave, and I can’t imagine my life without her. My favorite thing about Meg is her laugh - it is loud and infectious and a good indication of how much joy she finds in life.

One of my other favorite things about Meg is that she is willing to try things, even when they scare her. She once ate a bowl of raw chicken parts at a restaurant in Tokyo because it was the chef’s specialty!

She loves to be outdoors whether it’s hiking, cycling, or just walking in the park with the dog. I know one of the things she is looking forward to the most about being a mom is biking with our son or daughter.

She is relentlessly curious and always interested in learning new things. She loves to read, and I frequently think about how amazing it will be to watch her read to our child. She is dedicated in everything she does - she once ran a marathon because someone told her she couldn’t! - and I know she will bring that commitment to parenthood too. Plus, she bakes a mean batch of sugar cookies.

    About Laura, By Meg

I have known Laura for almost 15 years. I can honestly say that she is my best friend.

One of the reasons I fell for Laura is because of how warm and thoughtful she is. Laura thinks of the little things that make people feel happy and loved. She knows I adore pomegranates, so she picks one up every October as soon as she sees them in the grocery store. She once drove an hour and a half - each way! - to have a 30-minute lunch with me when I was having a terrible day at work. She surprises me with flowers every now and then, just to see me smile.

One of her favorite things to do is cook big meals for our friends. She loves to watch people relax, have a good time, and enjoy the delicious food. She especially loves it when our friends bring their kids along. She loves showing them what she’s doing in the kitchen, or just playing hide and seek behind a kitchen towel.

Family is one of the most important things to Laura, and she loves fiercely and with all her heart. I know that she can’t wait to play hours of video games with our child, build Lego sets together, and go fly kites at the beach. One of the things I am most looking forward to is watching her teach our child - how to cook, and read, and kick a soccer ball. She will be an amazing mother - loving and supportive and strong. She has so much space in her heart and can’t wait to add another piece to our family.

    Our Home

We live in a 2-bedroom apartment in San Francisco. Our home is bright and warm, and we love it very much. We have filled our house with stuff that makes us happy - we have dozens (hundreds?) of books, and artwork from all over the world. Our bedroom walls are covered in pictures of our trips to Belize and Honduras, hand-crafted art from India and Kenya, and a framed copy of our wedding invitation. It reminds us every day about how much fun we have together!

We have 3 rescue pets: two cats named Kate and Viola and a dog named Penny. Our cats can be shy at first, but they will happily settle into your lap for attention if you hang out for just a little bit. Penny is sweet and smart and always loves to play. Her favorite activities include swimming in the ocean, chasing her soccer ball (yes, Laura taught her how to play soccer!), and snoozing between us on the couch. She loves kids and says hi to every child we meet on walks! Our friends’ 4-year-old loves her so much that he called us “the Penny mamas” for the first year after we met him.

Our favorite part of every day is our evenings together at home, cooking (Laura), sharing (both), and cleaning up (Meg) a home-cooked meal, all while talking about our days. Spending some family time together, no matter how crazy our days have been, will continue with our son or daughter at the table!

Our neighborhood is the perfect combination of quiet and active - our street is peaceful (by city standards!), but we are just a few blocks away from a busy area with lots of stuff to do. We are right up the street from Golden Gate Park and spend a lot of time there walking, biking, and picnicking. We get around as much as we can on foot. Being able to walk places is just one of the things we love about living in a city. We can’t wait to strap on a baby carrier and take our little one with us to see the sights

    Our Family and Friends

Meg was raised in Texas, and Laura is from Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Although we come from very different parts of the country, our families are very similar - they are loving and supportive, and they are all very excited about our future child! Collectively, we have five nephews, and they’re all looking forward to a new member of the pack!

We have a very strong community of friends - we like to think of them as the family members we got to choose. We have people over to our home to play board games, taste-test new recipes from Laura, indulge in a homemade dessert from Meg, or just hang out as often as we can. As our chosen family, we are proud of the amazing aunties (two of whom were adopted themselves) and uncles (strong and kind male role models) who our child will know. Many of them have children - some adopted - and we can’t wait to set up playdates

    New Firsts

We can’t wait to experience these “firsts” with our child.

Going to Disneyland. We both remember our first trips when we were little, and we still love going. There’s something magical about seeing Mickey Mouse and getting his signature in your autograph book.

Reading the Harry Potter series. We’ve watched our nephews discover these books, and we can’t wait to do the same while we teach our child to read.

Realizing you don’t need those training wheels. We’re looking forward to riding bikes together in Golden Gate Park on the weekends.

Sleeping outside in the woods. We love camping, and we both remember the first exciting time we slept outside under the stars as children.

Baking chocolate chip banana bread. Meg’s family has a “secret” recipe that she can’t wait to share with her child.

Playing board games. We love game nights with friends, and we can’t wait until our child can join us for a round of Monopoly or Settlers of Catan!

    Thank you!

Thank you for taking the time to read about us! We can only imagine how difficult this process and decision is for you, but hope you’ll consider including us in your journey.

We are excited about the prospect of starting our family. It’s very important to us that your child understand where he or she came from - their background and cultural history.  If you choose us to raise your child, we can promise some things. Your child will explore the world and have adventures. Your child will have fun. Your child will know their own history, and they will know you. And - most importantly - your child will be loved, completely and unendingly.

We’d love to learn more about you, so feel free to contact our adoption agency at [email protected] or text/phone 415.355.4636.
